Basti| In memory of Pirai Khan, the warrior of the Indian independence movement, a tribute cremony was organised in the entire village of Pirai under Bahadurpur block. Addressing the tribute ceremony, Dr. Harish Verma, manager of Sant Dwarka Prasad Postgraduate College, Kotwa, Ambedkar Nagar, said that Pirai Khan was a skilled soldier and a well-known figure in warfare.

In the freedom struggle under his leadership, on 10 June 1857, the guerrilla revolutionaries attacked the British officers crossing the Manorama River with lathi-poles, swords, furs, spears, kirches etc.. In which Lieutenant Lindsay, Lieutenant Thomas, Lieutenant English, Lieutenant Ritchie, Lieutenant Kakal and Sergeant Edward were killed on the spot. Topchi Sergeant Busher somehow managed to escape after saving his life. He gave information about the incident to senior officers. The British government was shaken by this revolutionary event.

Dr. Vidyaram Vishwakarma, National President of the Shaheed Memorial Trust, the distinguished guest of the ceremony, emphasized that after the Mahua Dabur action, the Firangi government committed the crime of killing the British officers at their homes – bar, farming – bari, livelihood – Employment was all destroyed by fire. The name of this village was erased and declared to be ‘non-destructive’. Not only this, revolutionaries like Ghulam Khan, Gulzar Khan Pathan, Nehal Khan Pathan, Gheesa Khan Pathan and Badlu Khan Pathan were hanged on February 18, 1958.To learn the distinction of revolutionary leaders. Dr. Vishwakarma demanded a memorial in memory of these armed fighters.

The ceremony was addressed by assistant teachers Vinod Kumar, Master Mohiuddin Khan, Adil Khan etc. The chairmanship was presided over by Pirai village head and governing revolutionary writer Shah Alam.
